Biodiverse Textiles
Human production and consumption have a large impact on biodiversity. The wool industry directed the rise of the Merino sheep breed and led to the endangered status of other sheep breeds. Counting Sheep documents different sheep breeds with their wool properties, proposing methods and new purposes to create a diverse and sustainable production and consumption of wool. The project led to the creation of a series of products, that are for a large part created with materials sourced from sheep farms: wool, lanolin, bio-based resin, and casein-based plastic.
Received a Student Research Award from Parsons School of Design to fund collaboration with sheep farmers.
